hi
today we are going to make a treasure
map
we're going to have buried treasure and
we're going to put a map so that we can
find it later
all you're going to need is a paper bag
you can use any kind of paper bag so
here's our treasure map
and i've wrapped it up so it's nice and
tight
i'm going to unwrap it and i
have the trigger mask
so what we're going to do first is take
our
paper bag and rip along the fold
so see i'm just dripping along the fold
lots of noise ripping ripping ripping
we want to make it look old see the
tattered edges we want to make it look
like we found a really old treasure map
it takes a little bit of courage to go
uh
on an adventure so we're going to talk
about
vincent van gogh said what would life be
like
if we had no courage to attempt
anything i don't know takes courage to
go on an adventure so let's
let's make an adventure in our
imagination
you're going to need your crayons or a
pencil
and here's our map now i've drawn out
all kinds of things
the first thing you want to do
is draw where the treasure is buried
there we are here's the treasure
i put in red x marks the spot so it's
nice and bright
the next thing is we've got this island
so go ahead and make an island sometimes
the island waves
in and out it's not a perfect circle
it's not a square
it just kind of morphs around there we
go
now if that's the x we have to find a
path
to get to the treasure okay
so here is our little sailing ship
okay there's the sails and we're in the
big ocean we come over to the shoreline
there's the shore i'm going to put some
shore over on this side
and then we have a path we have to find
where
how to get to the treasure now i know
right here are some gum
drop mountains so i'm going to put those
in and right here
is uh gator cliff there we go probably
because it looks a little bit late
like a gator
and so we know that if we land here we
can't go over the mountains to get the
treasure
and we can't go over the cliff to get
the treasure so we have to go that
direction
which direction is that that direction
is north so let's make a little symbol
for north up there
okay now if north goes up
south goes down all right
and then if north and south are there
east is on this side
and west is on this side and so what
this is called
is a compass rose and this is kind of
how the sailors would travel around the
world
in the ocean okay so let's put our path
together
we're walking down the path and we get
to
a river so let's color in that river
we have to cross the river that river's
name is tricky river
and then we get up to the stinky swamp
it's really really stinky
so let's give it some stinky smells and
you know what else i'm going to do i'm
going to put flies there because flies
are attracted to really smelly things
so there's some flies swimming around
they're flying around
and then guess what there's a volcano
here we have to
go around the volcano you can't go
through a volcano
put the lava in there maybe some lavas
coming down
okay so we're still on our path and then
we're going to come over
to these furry rocks i mean i've never
heard of four-way rocks but if you were
to see them you
know it's a landmark and you're right on
the right path to your adventure to the
where the treasure is
and then we keep coming along oh
there's a bear a little black bear and
it turns out
my dad told me the bears the black bears
are mostly vegetarian they eat
nuts and berries and
sometimes bugs so there's the
uh the shore line and that's um
the black bear beach so the bear lives
there okay so let's come around the
corner
and look there's bunches bunches of
trees so that must be a forest so we'll
go ahead and draw our little forest in
there
and then as we come along here it is we
found the treasure
so do you have a shovel can you dig up
that treasure and find what it is
okay sounds great up here in the outside
ocean you could put fish in the ocean
you could put a mermaid you could put
some crab
decorate the whole thing and have fun
have fun today
use your imagination and have an
adventure
all right have a great day
